Fort Bend Justice Center Administration Building Expansion
Project Snapshot
The 265,000-square-foot, four-story expansion of the Fort Bend Justice Center Administration Building rises between Eugene Heimann Circle and Williams Way Boulevard in Richmond, Texas. This modern facility broadens the county’s judicial services while matching the original campus architecture.
Our Role
CMT provided geotechnical design parameters and construction-phase materials testing paired with on-site observation services. The work included:
-
Subsurface characterization and laboratory analysis
-
Foundation design input for spread footings, drilled shafts, and floor slabs
-
Earthwork observation to confirm proper moisture-density relationships
-
Concrete, reinforcing steel, and asphalt paving material testing
-
Real-time communication with the design-build team to keep the schedule on track
Engineering Highlights
Fort Bend County’s expansive clay profiles required careful evaluation of swell potential. CMT’s team developed practical solutions—such as moisture-controlled pads and strategically placed straight-shaft piers—to limit long-term movement and preserve structural integrity. In addition, slope stability checks along nearby drainage corridors safeguarded the project from seasonal runoff challenges.
Community Impact
By adding courtrooms, administrative offices, and secure public interfaces, the expansion improves access to judicial services for one of Texas’s fastest-growing counties. Sustainable features—including low-VOC finishes and high-performance glazing—support Fort Bend County’s commitment to environmental stewardship, while the building’s placement strengthens the civic core of Richmond.
